What is Serj~Sama?

Serj~Sama is a webseries created by Kevin Gamer (Professionaly known as Kevin Cadaver). The series is about the band System Of A Down but turned into a sterotypical anime. The series' main character is Serj-sama who is a 16 year old highschool student who is in love with Daron-senpai. Shavo-kun is the main rival who teams up with John-san to win back Daron-senpai's heart.

Q: What is the process of making a Serj~Sama Episode?

A: Each episode is referenced off of a volume of Serj~Sama I create within a month (or in the past it took several months leading to a year) which acts as my storyboard. I take all of the dialogue from the chapters and make a script out of it and then I start animating. Animating usually takes a week or two depending on how many chapters there are. We then voice which is the most lengthy process since we have other priorities in our lives other than voicing characters. When it comes to voices I rarely give directions as I usually do not request any tone of voice so everything is raw and unpredicted by me but that's what makes it good! Once I get all of the voices I put the frames into WMM and start "lip-synching". Once this tedious part of the process is over I choose music. Then it's finished! For something like the Father's Day Special I went off the script and just did a storyboard in my head.

Q: How did you decide to choose which characters you wanted to be in the show? Was it already planned?

A: Almost all of the characters were chosen just from what I was listening to and knowledge at the time but overall most were planned out by me. In Episode 5 during the wedding scene we just added some characters on the spot with some help from the crew!! (Tenacious D, Dave Lombardo, Neil Cicirega, Billy Idol). One character in particular that I do not remember adding for any reason was Mortimer–San. I don’t know why I chose him. He has no affiliation with SOAD or anything!! He's just a Thrillville character!! I really wanted to add more characters to the story like Jimi Hendrix, ICP and Ween.

Q:Was there a pre-planned storyboard?

A: The closest thing to storyboarding I do is referencing the manga. The Father's Day Special did not have a storyboard. The only thing that was properly storyboarded was the intro.

Q:What was the initial idea of Serj~Sama? Did it come out of nowhere or was it already planned?

A: Serj~Sama was just a joke to me, Sam and Nuha made up one day while looking at old SOAD art on Deviantart. The picture that was inspired to make Serj~Sama was actually this So no, Serj~Sama was not planned and I made the manga out of impulse.

Q:Question about Tom Jones sama, do people still fling their panties at him in this universe?

A: yeah.
